Handwritten extract of a letter to Riley, military governor of California. Ord reported his observations on Los Angeles. This letter and others were incorporated into Philip Thomas Tyson's Report of the Secretary of War, Communicating Information in Relation to the Geology and Topography of California. Washington, 1850.

Soldier. Distinguished himself during the War of 1812, in various Indian actions, and during the Mexican War. He served as miltiary governor of California in 1849. Bennett I. and Edward B.D.
